65 Exciting Things You Can Do With the Apple Watch is a post by Xavier Lanier from Gotta Be Mobile.

Right out of the box, an Apple Watch can help keep you healthy, deliver notifications, make calls, send texts, run simple apps, and even save your life. But the real magic happens when you install apps and personalize your Apple Watch to help you achieve exactly what you hope to do in any given day.

In this guide, we’ll show you exactly what the Apple Watch can do in a variety of settings. Some of them may sound obvious to long-time Apple Watch users, but we promise there are some cool things listed below that you’ve never tried since the Apple Watch and WatchOS are constantly evolving.

Almost all recent Apple Watch models can do everything listed below, but some of the features are exclusive to more recent Apple Watch models. If you are using an Apple Watch that’s a few years old and want to be able to do everything listed in this guide, you may need to upgrade to the newest Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch 8, or Apple Watch Ultra.

The Apple Watch is more than a miniaturized iPhone on your wrist. When you understand what you can do with the Apple Watch it becomes an amazing tool to help you get through your day, be more productive, lose weight, and even save money.

Your Apple Watch can do more than anyone likely needs. But just about everyone should get to know the basic Apple Watch features that are at its core. However, a lot of people don’t make use of the Apple Watch’s best features. This Apple Watch series aren’t the only watches that connect to the iPhone, but they are the best for most people.

What Can the Apple Watch Do with watchOS 9?

With watchOS 9, there are more workout views, a new compass layout, improved medications reminders, better sleep tracking, and more dynamic watch faces. These, combined with many other watchOS 9 features, means you can do more with your Apple Watch than ever, and rely less on your iPhone. That’s important for those that aren’t allowed to or aren’t able to pull out their iPhones whenever they choose. There are more details within each of the sections below.

Communicating Quickly

1.) Answer Calls on the Apple Watch:

You can answer phone calls on your Apple Watch, using it as a small Bluetooth speakerphone. There’s no need to pull out your iPhone for shorter calls thanks to the Apple Watch’s built-in microphone and speaker. Just keep in mind that those nearby may be able to hear your caller and the speakerphone on the Apple Watch isn’t nearly as loud as the iPhone’s.

You can also use your Apple Watch to quickly let callers know that you can’t talk at the moment by tapping one of your pre-set replies, such as “Sorry, I can’t talk right now.”

2.) Place Calls from Your Apple Watch

You can place calls from your Apple Watch in a flash. All you have to do is hold the Apple Watch’s crown down to activate Siri and ask your watch to call a contact. If you are dialing a number that isn’t in your contact list, then you can also tap it into your Apple Watch using an on-screen keypad.

If you have an Apple Watch GPS + Cellular, you can make or receive calls on your Apple Watch, even when your  iPhone isn’t nearby. This requires adding the watch to your plan for about $10 per month with your wireless carrier. The Apple Watch Ultra comes with the cellular feature baked in. If you want to make calls from other models, you need to plan ahead and make sure you buy a cellular model as there’s no way to upgrade down the road.

3.) Call 911 in Two Steps

In an emergency, the Apple Watch makes it fast and easy to call for help. All you need to do is hold down the side button for a few seconds until three options pop up. Sliding the SOS icon to the right will activate an emergency call. Regardless of where in the world you are, the Apple Watch will call the appropriate phone number for emergency services. While you may be used to dialing 911, the Apple Watch is smart enough to dial the proper number and even key in any confirmation number local authorities require.

4.) View and Reply to Texts and iMessages on Your Wrist

Text messages and iMessages instantly appear on your wrist so you don’t have to take your phone out of your pocket. You can also reply quickly with canned messages, emojis, Siri or by scribbling letter by letter what you want to say. The canned messages often pick up on the context of a text so that you can tap on an option that someone gives you.

You can also see recent conversations in the Messages app on the Apple Watch. This works with both iMessages and text messages.

5). Send Facebook Messages

Facebook Messenger is a popular app for staying in touch with family, friends and groups. You can receive Facebook Messages on your Apple Watch and even reply with with text, emoji, a thumbs up, your location or a custom message using the microphone to dictate. If you rely on Facebook Messages to stay in touch, this is an awesome feature. Facebook Messenger supports the scribble reply feature so you can reply even when you can’t talk.

6) Use the Apple Watch as a Translator

Apple Watch iTranslate App Spanish English

You can use your Apple Watch as a translator so that you can talk with people you don’t share a common language with. There is even an offline mode to use when you are traveling and don’t have a cellular connection.

iTranslate is a free app that offers in-app purchases to unlock some additional features. The app allows you to translate between more than 100 languages. The app translates quickly and allows the person you’re communicating with to read what you said in their native language. There’s also an option to have the Apple Watch speak the translations out loud.

7. Apple Watches Can be Walkie Talkies

You can use your Apple Watch as a walkie talkie to communicate with friends and families when you are out and about. The Walkie Talkie app on the Apple Watch allows you to send audio messages that automatically play when the recipients are marked as available.  This allows you to quickly chat back and forth with friends during the day or connect with them when you are at an event like a concert easily. Some people use this feature like an intercom at home.

8. Check Your Email

Apple Watch Mail app Can Check Delete email

Is your email app your second home? If so, the Apple Watch will either be the best thing to happen or a gateway to checking your email even more often. You can get Mail notifications on your wrist, read flag, delete and easily open on the iPhone for a longer reply. This works inside the Mail app for iPhone.

There isn’t a Gmail app for Apple Watch, but you can get Gmail notifications. You won’t necessarily get a notification for each and every email that comes in, but it will mirror what you see on your iPhone.

9. Send Memojis on Apple Watch

Apple Watch Memoji

You can send Memojis from your Apple Watch, as well as standard emoji. You can’t animate the Memoji or make a specific face like you can on the iPhone, but you can send the Memoji that are standard on the iPhone from your watch.

10. Send Apple Watch Drawings to Friends

You can sketch out a small drawing with your finger on your Apple Watch and send it to a friend’s Apple Watch. The only limits are your imagination, artistic skill, and of course the screen size. The drawing will come across as an animated sketch and your friend can respond with another drawing. This drawings will also go directly to iPhones.

11. Share Your Heartbeat

The Apple Watch can track your heart rate for fitness activities, but that’s not all the sensors can do. You can share your heartbeat with a loved one as a message.  When you do this a small animation shows on-screen to show your heartbeat directly to another Apple watch. Apple calls this, “a simple intimate way to tell someone how you feel.”

This isn’t something that most Apple Watch users will use often, but it’s a cool way to send a message to someone you love to let them know you are thinking about them.

Apple Watch Can Help Keep You Healthy and Safe

1. Monitor Safe Hearing Levels

The Apple Watch comes with a noise app that tracks how loud your environment is. This allows you to know if you are in a setting where audio is at a dangerous level so you can get hearing protection or move away from the loud sources of noise. You can expect to get alerts in loud environments like constructions sites, rock concerts, and fireworks shows.  You will also see alerts for things you might not think will damage your hearing, such as sustained noise at volumes that aren’t as jarring.

2. Check and Track Blood Oxygen Levels

The Apple Watch Series 6, Series 7, Series 8, and Ultra include a sensor that tracks your blood oxygen levels. This is especially useful for those who need to monitor their blood oxygen levels due to illnesses such as Asthma, Influenza, and COVID-19.

The more recent Apple Watches will take blood oxygen level readings throughout the day, which means you can instantly see your most recent reading on your Apple Watch’s Blood Oxygen app. If you want a current blood oxygen level reading it 15 seconds to take a new one.  You can see a running history of your blood oxygen levels in your iPhone’s Health app.

3. Monitor Your Heart Rate

Apple Watch heart rate Can track Automatically

The Apple Watch heart rate monitor is credited with saving the life of a teen and of a 62 year old.

The Apple Watch uses sensors on the back of the Apple Watch to check your heart rate automatically throughout the day. Your current heart rate, resting heart rate, and walking average are all instantly viewable on your Apple Watch by tapping the Heart Rate app. Your heart rate data is stored in the Apple Health app on your iPhone so you can look at trends and see more details.

When you are exercising, you can see the heart rate at all times on your Apple Watch if you start a workout.

4. Take an Electrocardiogram (ECG)

ECG Apple Watch Can Take Just 30 SecondsThe Apple Watch Series 4 and newer (except SE models) can take Electrocardiograms (ECG) to detect your heart health. An ECG used to be something that required a visit to a medical provider, but you can now check your heart’s rhythm in just 30 seconds with your Apple Watch. All you need to do is launch the ECG app and hold your finger to the Digital Crown. When the scan is done it will show you whether your heart shows signs of arterial fibrulation (afib).

5. Track Your Fitness

The Apple Watch uses various sensors to monitor your movement and track your progress towards healthy goals that the Apple Watch or an Apple Watch app will help you set.

You can see this progress across three categories; movement, exercise and time spent standing. Movement measures calories burned, exercise is when you hit 30 minutes of exercise in a day, and the stand section aims to make you less sedentary. The watch will alert you to stand up if you sit for too long and nudge you towards movement and exercise goals.

You can adjust your move goal by pressing hard on the screen when in the Activity App. You can also see the fitness information on your iPhone in the Health app.

6. Track Your Runs

The Apple Watch can use its built-in GPS to track where you runs, even if you don’t bring your iPhone with you. You can view your detailed runs on a map on your iPhone after your run so you can decide if you want to repeat the route in the future or not.

7. Track Your Cycle

You can easily track your cycle and get alerts on your Apple Watch. The app uses information you enter on your last period  to help predict the start of your next period.

You can see this information on your Apple Watch and log flow as well as symptoms of your period.

8. Track Your Sleep

All recent Apple Watch models include built-in sleep tracking features that make sure you get to bed on time, wake up on time, and help improve your quality of sleep. All you need to do is enter some basic info in the Sleep app and wear your Apple Watch to sleep.  The Apple Watch will track how much time you spend in each stage of sleep and at what time you hit each stage.

Use the Apple Watch to Get Around

1. Use the Apple Watch as a Compass

Apple Watch Compass using to get around

Select Watch Faces and  the standalone Compass app is a standalone app can show you the which way you’re facing, the incline, elevation and your latitude and longitude. This is a cool feature to try at least a few times, especially if you’re directionally challenged. For more complicated navigation, there are countless watch apps that use the Apple Watch Compass to assist you navigate on land, water, or even sky.

2. Use the Apple Watch as a Car Key

You can use your Apple Watch  as a key for most newer BMWs and select Hyundai and KIA models.  That means you can open your cars’ doors and start the ignition by just tapping on your watch’s side button a couple of times.  Almost all BMW models built since July 2020 support the Apple key feature, with Hyundai and Kia compatibility much more limited.

Apple Watch Productivity Features

1. Use Your Apple Watch as a Calculator

The Apple Watch can be used as a calculator through Siri or the calculator app. The built-in app can help you solve basic math problems and settle restaurant bills. The Apple Watch calculator app has a TIP calculator that lets you put in the total due and adjust the percentage of tip you’d like to leave. It also gives you the option to select the number of people splitting the bill to give you a precise number for each person to pay.

2. Record a Voice Memo or Conversation

You can use your Apple Watch to record a Voice Memo  with its built-in microphone. This means your Apple Watch can quickly record your thoughts before you forget them, important meetings and conversations without having to rely on your iPhone. All you need to do is open the app by selecting it from the app screen or by asking Siri to open the Voice Memos app. To start recording, all you need to do is tap the red button. Voice Memos are stored in iCloud and synced to your other Apple devices for playback and sharing.

3. Unlock Your MacBook and Passwords

With Auto Unlock enabled on your MacBook, you can quickly unlock it while wearing your Apple Watch. That means you won’t need to type in your password every time your MacBook goes to sleep. You can also use your Apple Watch to automatically unlock your stored Passwords and password-protected Notes.

Apple Watch Entertainment Features:

Listen to Podcasts on the Apple Watch:

Apple includes the Podcasts app on the Apple Watch. You can sync podcasts to the Apple Watch based on the ones you listen to on your iPhone when the watch is on its charger. If you are mobile you can stream the latest episodes on LTE or on WiFi.  You will to use your AirPods to listen as Podcasts won’t play back on the Apple Watch’s built-in speaker.

Other Things the Apple Watch Can Do

1. Stay Quiet in a Movie Theater

You can tell your Apple Watch not to respond to hand movements while you are at the movies. This keeps your Apple Watch from lighting up when you move your arm. With this mode, the watch noises also stop, so you can enjoy the movie without disturbing others. You will still get notifications and the watch will vibrate so you know if something important is happening, it’s just less likely to annoy people around you.

To enable this, just swipe up from the Apple Watch home screen, and you’ll see a pair of theater masks.  Tap on the masks to turn on Theater mode. When you are done, tap on it again to turn it off.

2. Tell You The Time

There’s more than one way for the Apple Watch to tell you the time. While the most obvious way is to just look at your wrist, there are a few other ways to tell time on the Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch can speak the time to you by tapping the watch face with two fingers. You can also set your Apple Watch to play hourly chimes.   The Apple Watch can also tap out the time on your wrist using its haptic engine.

Settings to change what Apple Watch can do for telling time

To enable or disable these time-telling tricks, you will need to launch the Settings app on your Apple Watch, then select Clock to see your options.

Answer Calls on the Apple Watch

Answer Calls on the Apple Watch

You can answer a call on your Apple Watch using it as a small Bluetooth speakerphone. You only want to use this for shorter calls because the audio quality isn't as good as when you are talking on speakerphone on your iPhone.

The Apple Watch only allows you to answer your calls on Speakerphone, so you won't want to use this all the time. It is very handy when you are working on a project or busy with your hands. Definitely be conscious of where you are taking calls. If you wouldn't talk on speakerphone, you shouldn't talk on your Apple Watch.

If you buy the new Apple Watch with LTE, you can even make calls on the Apple Watch without your iPhone nearby. This requires adding the watch to your plan for $10 a month. You cannot answer a FaceTime video call on the Apple Watch.

What we know about the Apple Watch Series 6 so far.

What we know about the Apple Watch Series 6 so far.

If you’re looking to buy an Apple Watch in 2020, there are great reasons you should wait for the Apple Watch 6 instead of buying what’s on the market today. Here’s why you should wait for the 2020 Apple Watch, and why you should click purchase today.

Read: Reasons to Buy the Apple Watch 6

  • Expect the Apple Watch Series 6 announcement on September 15th.
  • New health features are likely.
  • Wait for display, design, or water resistance upgrades.

We could see two new 2020 Apple Watch models this year with a high end, and a mid-range model. Essentially this means a new Apple Watch 6 to replace the Apple Watch 5 and a new entry-level Apple Watch to replace the Apple Watch 3.

The Apple Watch 5 is almost a year old, but it is still a good option for some users and you can save with Apple Watch Series 5 deals that happen regularly. In Summer 2020, we routinely saw the Apple Watch 5 for $100 off.

If you’re looking for an Apple Watch in 2020, the Apple Watch 5, Apple Watch 4, and even Apple Watch 3 are good options, but you should also consider waiting for the 2020 Apple Watch, aka the Series 6.

The free watchOS 7 update is coming later this year alongside the Apple Watch 6. Apple will deliver the new update to the Apple Watch Series 5, Series 4, and Series 3.

No products found.

It looks like Apple is pushing the envelope for the Apple Watch 6 with more significant upgrades than we got this year, and if an Always On Display and Compass didn’t convince you to upgrade, you might want to hold on for the next model.

Apple Watch 6 Rumors

Apple Watch 6 release date rumors are all over the board this month, and now that Apple is hosting an event on September 15th, we expect that is the day the new models will arrive.

Bloomberg reports that Apple is planning to release two new Apple Watch models this year. A new high-end model to replace the Apple Watch 5 and an entry-level Apple Watch 3 replacement that competes with the Fitbit.

Another report from Bloomberg outlines the inclusion of a faster processor and a blood oxygen meter. The watch will keep the current 40mm and 44mm sizes. This lines up with leaks in the watchOS 7 code and with reports from analysts.

The 2020 Apple Watch will include faster performance, even more, water-resistance and better wireless speeds for both cellular and WiFi. The report from TF International Securities is authored by Ming-Chi Kou, who has an excellent track record with Apple rumors.

Early iOS 14 leaks mentioned that Apple might be planning to add blood oxygen detection to the Apple Watch 6 this year. 9to5Mac notes that this could be a software upgrade that comes to some recent models, but there is also a chance that it is only available on the new Apple Watch. The same report mentions ECG improvements at heart rates between 100-120 beats per minute. We did not see this mentioned with watchOS 7.

Apple is adding sleep tracking to the Apple Watch with watchOS 7 updates and bringing it to older models. We may see new sensors on Series 6 enhance the sleep tracking. Apple’s been testing sleep tracking for the Apple Watch for some time.

Another report suggests Apple will switch Apple Watch suppliers in 2020. A new company will make the S chips that run the Apple Watch. It’s not clear what this change means for consumers in terms of features just yet, but it is a sign of things to come.

Here’s a closer look at the reasons to wait for the 2020 Apple Watch, and why you shouldn’t wait for the new model.

Wait for a New Apple Watch Features

Wait for a New Apple Watch Features

The Apple Watch 5 is a relatively minor update, and we're expecting Apple will push forward with a bigger upgrade for the Apple Watch 6.

Originally we expected a new design and display tech, but it looks like the Apple Watch Series 6 will be similar in style to the Apple Watch 5.

It looks like we will see increases health tracking features like blood oxygen level tracking, sleep tracking and there are also a lot of watchOS 7 features coming to the Apple Watch this fall.

On September 15th we should learn about all the new Apple Watch 6 features, and that is a big reason to wait.

It’s getting cold outside. With that in mind, these are hands-down the best touchscreen gloves you can buy this winter. Warm gloves that work with the touchscreens on our phones, iPads, car infotainment displays and more. Winter is here, and these are some of our favorites that will keep you warm into 2020 while still letting you use your phone and send Snapchats.

Our list below has highly rated gloves for as low as $9, although you’ll need to spend upwards of $30-50 for something with a bit more style, sophistication, or warmth. That includes thick double-layer wool gloves, stylish leather, or lightweight Nike running tech gloves.

Keep in mind that the more expensive options will let you use your phone with any finger, instead of just one or two “touchscreen-friendly” fingertips.

One important thing to consider is the thickness of your glove. Depending on the climate, you might need very warm wool gloves. If not, something thin and comfortable is probably the best. The thicker the glove, the harder it will be to accurately send text messages or tap on emails.

Best Touchscreen Gloves for Winter

  • Agloves Touchscreen Unisex Gloves
  • TRENDOUX Thermal Soft Gloves
  • Moshi Digits Gloves
  • Mujjo Double-Layered Wool Gloves
  • Dimore Women Fashion Touchscreen Gloves
  • North Face ThermoBall E-Tip
  • WARMEN Leather Touchscreen Gloves
  • Nike Tech Running Gloves
  • GliderGloves
  • Handlandy Tech Work Gloves

Some of the most popular gloves use real silver yarn, which is extremely conductive and delivers excellent display responsiveness on phones and tablets. One pair even uses copper to conduct your fingertips. Then, we have gloves to keep you going while you’re on a run, or that you can wear to work. Not to mention some nice stylish gloves you can wear while you drive or during a night out on the town these holidays.

With several options to choose from at retail stores or Amazon, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Our list offers some of the highest-rated gloves available and that fit any usage scenario. We have a little something for everyone. Check out the list above, or hit the slideshow below for more details and links to buy a pair today.

Agloves Silver-Lined Touchscreen Gloves

Agloves Silver-Lined Touchscreen Gloves

One of the highest-rated and most popular choices comes from Agloves. Where some brands add little tips to the gloves that are uncomfortable or only work with a single finger, Agloves uses real silver yarn to make each glove. This means every inch of the Aglove works with touchscreens. All 10 fingers, your knuckle, palm, or anything else.

They use Acrylic, Spandex, metal (silver), and rubber all combined into one of the most accurate and precise gloves on the market.

Agloves are Unisex, come in two different sizes, and you can choose from Black, Brown, Navy Blue, Red and White to fit any style or outfit. They're also fairly affordable.

While the Galaxy Watch doesn’t run Google’s Wear OS, like we heard from rumors, it’s still an excellent smartwatch in a market dominated by the Apple Watch. If you’re looking for a watch that isn’t made by Apple, this is worth considering.

If you’ve been waiting for a new smartwatch to pair with your Android phone, like a Galaxy S9 or the new Galaxy Note 9, this is it. Here’s how long the battery lasts, the release date, and how much you’ll pay for the Samsung Galaxy Watch.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Release Date

First things first, the Galaxy Watch will be available for pre-order starting August 10th with the release date set for August 24th. Basically, you can walk into carrier stores, retailers, or head to Samsung.com on August 24th and buy a Galaxy Note 9 and the Galaxy Watch at the same time. They even have a new dual wireless charging stand to recharge both devices at the same time.

We don’t see a reason to pre-order the Galaxy Watch, so go buy one on August 24th at a store near you.

Galaxy Watch Comes in Two Sizes

Samsung’s new smartwatch comes in two different sizes, that way it’s perfect for both men and women. Or, for those that don’t like a massive watch on their wrist. The smaller device is 42mm (1.2-inch screen) and has a 20mm changeable band.

However, the one most people will want is the bigger 46mm Galaxy Watch. That’s because it has an even bigger 1.3-inch OLED display, and a far bigger battery that Samsung claims can last for days on end. The bigger Galaxy Watch also has a wider 22mm band that matches most 3rd party accessories sold for other watches around the globe. Not to mention the wide array of replacement bands from Samsung themselves.

Galaxy Watch Specs

While specs inside a watch aren’t as important as your smartphone, it does make a big difference. Especially when it comes to battery life, or for features like an always-on display. What’s the point of a smartwatch if the screen is always off to preserve battery life? Samsung is using the latest and greatest wearable technology to ensure a great experience and top-tier specs.

Galaxy Watch Specs

  • 1.2 or 1.3-inch 360 x 360 Full-Color Always-On Display (round)
  • Samsung Exynos 9110 Dual core 1.15GHz
  • 1.5GB RAM and 4GB memory (storage) (Bluetooth only model is 768MB RAM)
  • Samsung Tizen Wearable OS 4.0
  • 3G, 4G LTE, WiFi, BlueTooth, GPS, more
  • Accelerometer, Gyro, Barometer, HRM, Ambient Light
  • IP68 / MIL-STD-810G
  • Wireless Charging, 472mAh or 270 mAh for all-day battery life
  • 46mm comes in silver, 42mm available in Midnight Black or Rose Gold

As you can see,  Samsung’s new watch packs quite a bunch. That said, it doesn’t run the latest wearable processors from Qualcomm, and the smaller model doesn’t have a very big battery considering the screen is only .1 smaller.

You still get a water-resistant device that meets military-grade ratings for toughness. And yes, they have Corning Gorilla Glass covering the display. We would love to see a bigger battery, Google’s Wear OS, and the same 1.5GB of RAM on both models, but they’re still shaping up as great watches for potential buyers.

Galaxy Watch Battery Life

The most important aspect of a smartwatch for me is battery life. I don’t want to take off and recharge it daily like I do my smartphone. And what good is a watch that dies halfway through the day? Luckily for you, Samsung claims the Galaxy Watch will finally deliver the battery life everyone wants.

According to Samsung reps, when you combine the bigger battery with its new Wearable OS silicon processor, average users could get 5-7 days on a single charge. That’s impressive. The bigger 46mm watch has a 472 mAh battery. As a comparison, the Gear S3 last year had a 380 mAh battery, so the 46mm watch coming in nearly 100 mAh bigger is a pretty big deal.

Furthermore, Samsung really hounded on the battery life point. Stating that even the most demanding user can expect 3-days on a single charge. If true, that makes this potentially one of the best watches around. Now if only it wasn’t so thick.

Galaxy Watch Price

As we said above, the Galaxy Watch comes in two different sizes. The 42mm watch is $329.99 which is pretty expensive, and available on August 24th.

Samsung’s bigger 46mm watch is only $20 more and will cost $349. That extra $20 gets you substantially better battery life, a slightly bigger screen, and a different color. You’ll be able to buy the Bluetooth-only model from Amazon, Best Buy, and Samsung’s store.

Additionally, an LTE variant will arrive later this year from carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and more. We’re assuming that one will cost even more, get bundled with the Galaxy Note 9, or come with heavy discounts when you add a line. Get yours on August 24th.

Apple Watch 3 Review: 3 Months With the New Apple Watch is a post by Josh Smith from Gotta Be Mobile.

After using the Apple Watch 3 for several months this is the smart watch to buy, and it’s a very worthy upgrade for anyone who already owns an Apple Watch. While you likely don’t need LTE, it can be helpful if you want the freedom to leave your iPhone at home or in a car while working out.

The Apple Watch 3 is noticeably faster than the Apple Watch Series 2, which means I use apps and features that took too long to reliably use on the older model. Siri can now talk to you, which is handy when you want to quickly command the digital assistant and keep doing what you were doing.

Apple Watch 3 battery life blows the previous models out of the water, which means I can go two days without a charge on most days, and even use the Apple Watch to track my sleep. In short this is the Apple Watch that you’ve been waiting for, even if you don’t need LTE.

Is the Apple Watch 3 Worth Buying?

If you want the best smart watch you can buy, the Apple Watch 3 is the one to buy. Don’t waste time with the Apple Watch Series 1. The Series 1 is dramatically slower, doesn’t have the same battery life and you cannot go swimming with it like you can with the Apple Watch 2 or Apple Watch 3.

[letsreview]

At $329 for the 38mm and $359 for the 42mm, the Apple Watch 3 is a steal for what you can do with it, and what it can do for you. If you time your Apple Watch purchase with holidays like Valentine’s Day, Mothers Day, Fathers Day and Black Friday you can easily save $50 to $100 off the purchase price of the new model.

Hands down the Apple Watch 3 is the best smart watch you can buy to wear with the iPhone. It’s the model I recommend to friends and family and with an Apple Watch 4 at least six to eight months away it remains an excellent buy. You can choose from a range of Apple Watch bands and between several Apple Watch colors.

How I Use the Apple Watch 3

With a bright and easy to see display, I use the Apple Watch 3 indoors and out, night and day. After tracking my sleep automatically overnight I wake up to an iPhone alarm that also vibrates on my wrist. Since the battery life is so good, I wear the watch overnight with the new mesh sport band that is super comfortable. I’ll put the Apple Watch 3 on the charger while I get a shower, which gives me enough power for the next day and night in most cases.

Notifications are at the core of the Apple Watch experience. While you can get all the same notifications on your wrist as on your iPhone, I limit mine to only the most important notifications; iMessage, Facebook messages, phone calls, Ring alerts, smart home alerts and a few other items. I don’t find any value in getting email, slack, Facebook or Twitter notifications on my wrist all day long. That option is there, but if you are active on all those platforms, the notifications get old.

Apps perform way better on the Apple Watch 3 than on older models.

Apps perform way better on the Apple Watch 3 than on older models.

Now that the Apple Watch is fast enough to reliably use apps I am relying on it more than I did the Series 2. I routinely scroll through Instagram, Tweetbot and reply to texts, iMessages and Facebook Messages on my Apple Watch. The Apple Watch app experience isn’t perfect as some apps still seem to take forever to refresh with information from the web on both WiFi and LTE. The Digital Crown makes scrolling through lists easier than swiping on the screen.

I use the Apple Watch to control my smart home gadgets. This includes turning my Lutron Lights on and off with the app, opening my garage door and using Siri to perform these actions.

Siri can talk on the Apple Watch 3, which makes using the virtual assistant to get conversions in the kitchen is handier since I don’t need to wait and look at the screen to know what the result is. This is also handy when performing other actions with Siri.

I track my activity with the Apple Watch 3 using the built-in Activity app which syncs to Apple Health and a variety of third party apps like Gyroscope to give me a full picture of my daily activity and overall health. I am using this alongside Lose It! as an effort to lose weight. The Apple Watch isn’t a magic bullet to get thin, but with the right motivation and the best weight loss apps it can help you get in shape with gentle nudges throughout the day.

Always seeing the Activity Rings and getting a push at the end of the day is helpful in staying active.

Always seeing the Activity Rings and getting a push at the end of the day is helpful in staying active.

Occasionally I will answer a call on the Apple Watch, but more often I use it to reply to a text by choosing a suggested reply, dictating a reply or using the scribble option to “type” a message back. This works on WiFi or LTE so even if you don’t opt for the cellular model you can use this feature with your iPhone in another room as long as you are on WiFi.

The Apple Watch 3 can stream Apple Music to Bluetooth headphones, but it is not a feature I use often. Streaming only works with Apple Music, and I prefer Spotify. I have loaded a playlist of purchased music on the Apple Watch for some runs, and it works very well. If there was a Spotify Apple Watch app this would be way more useful to me.

Apple does not include a camera on the Apple Watch 3, but you can use it as a remote viewfinder for your iPhone. This is really handy if you need to take a group photo and you want to be in it. You can see the photo and then take the photo right from the watch.

Apple Watch 3 Battery Life

The Apple Watch 3 battery life is much better than the Apple Watch 2 for how I use the device. I’ve only run out of battery life in single day twice, and that’s when something weird happened with an app that kept using the GPS.

Battery life is good enough to last at least two days with my use and the Apple Watch charges fast enough that I can charge when I shower and top up occasionally through the week.

Using LTE or GPS more frequently can drain the battery faster, so your results will vary, but the difference between the first Apple Watch and the Apple Watch 2 are night and day for me.

Do You Need an Apple Watch with LTE?

Do you need the Apple Watch 3 with LTE?

Do you need the Apple Watch 3 with LTE?

I purchased the Apple Watch 3 with LTE on Verizon. It’s $70 more expensive and $10 a month to always have connectivity. This means I can leave my iPhone at home and still be able to make and take calls and send and receive messages on the same phone number as my iPhone. I can also use other apps on the Apple Watch using LTE.

After several months, it’s not really a feature that I need on my Apple Watch. It is convenient, but I’m not without my iPhone as much as I thought I might be. A close friend uses the LTE connection very often, leaving his iPhone at home while playing Ultimate frisbee or while doing other tasks.

Even if you opt for no LTE, you can still use the Apple Watch without your iPhone for many features when you are connected to WiFi. Ultimately it’s a very personal decision, but most people will be fine without LTE. Here’s more on which Apple Watch 3 to buy.

65 Exciting Things You Can Do With the Apple Watch

Google is ready to take another shot at the smartwatch. After showing off new features in Android Wear 2.0 back in 2016, LG and Google recently unveiled two new watches with the latest software. However, current owners are wondering when their watch will get the Android Wear 2.0 update.

The brand new LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style are the first Android Wear 2.0 devices, and they’re coming soon. Both are already listed at popular retailers and carriers like Verizon.

LG’s new watches look good, but they’re also pretty expensive. As a result many will keep what they already have. This brings us to the big question. What smartwatches will get updated to Android Wear 2.0 in the near future? A full list can be found below.

LGWatchStyleSport-all

Over the past few years some excellent smartwatches have been released. However, they’re running on old and outdated software, not to mention lacking in features. That’s all about to change though.

Android Wear 2.0 Updates

Without further delay, this is the full list of watches that will get the update to Android Wear 2.0 in the near future.

  • ASUS ZenWatch 2
  • ASUS ZenWatch 3
  • Casio Smart Outdoor Watch
  • Casio PRO TREK Smart
  • Fossil Q Wander
  • Fossil Q Marshal
  • Fossil Q Founder
  • Huawei Watch
  • Huawei Watch Ladies
  • LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE
  • LG Watch Urbane
  • LG G Watch R
  • Moto 360 (2nd Gen.)
  • Moto 360 Sport
  • Michael Kors Access Bradshaw Smartwatch
  • Michael Kors Access Dylan Smartwatch
  • New Balance RunIQ
  • Nixon Mission
  • Polar M600
  • Tag Heuer Connected

Of course some of the most popular watches make the list. Including the newer Moto 360, the ASUS ZenWatch 2/3, anything recent from Huawei and the popular fashionable options from Michael Kors. First generation devices like the original Moto 360 or LG G Watch will be left out. That said, they are pretty old and were released in 2014.

Also, we don’t have an exact timeframe as to when these updates will be released. Previously most watches received updates around the same time, with Google pushing Wear updates out to all. As soon as we have more details or a time table to watch we’ll confirm the details.

Here’s a quick video recently released by Google. It details a few of the many new features you can expect to enjoy on Android Wear 2.0 in the near future.

Once Android Wear 2.0 arrives owners can expect more informative watch faces, and lots of customization or personalization. An improved Google Fit with better workouts, new ways to use apps, and more features like Android Pay on Wear. Additionally, the Google Assistant is now built-in. Meaning users can make the most of every minute, as their watch tells them the time in style.

While the smartwatch market as a whole hasn’t taken off as much as expected, they’re still popular. Samsung offers great watches, and the Apple Watch is still an exciting option for consumers. As a result Google has overhauled their entire user interface for watches and wearable devices.

The smartwatch market has been slowly losing momentum, but that should all change in early February. At the end of 2016 Google confirmed the company was working hard on two high-end flagship Android Wear smartwatches for this year. Now, additional details are starting to emerge.

Since being released in 2014 Android Wear smartwatches have been few and far in-between. The Moto 360 was successful but that’s about it. Most manufacturers decided to skip 2016 completely, with no new releases. However, leaks suggest Google and LG will debut two stunning Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch options soon.

For months on end we’ve been hearing rumors that Google themselves are building a pair of premium watches. In December Google confirmed it, although they won’t be branded as Pixel or Nexus devices. Instead, they look to be working with LG in an effort to showcase their latest wearable.

According to The Verge, who hosted an interview with Android Wear manager and Google employee Jeff Chang, big things are coming. During the interview Jeff had a lot to say about Android Wear, smartwatches as a whole, and where things are headed.

Since then, we’ve been waiting for more information, and now it has arrived. Here’s what we know about Google’s upcoming smartwatch partnership.

Google Smartwatch Details

Google’s employee went on to say these won’t be “Pixel or Nexus” branded watches. Instead, they are coming from a well-known company who has released Android Wear watches in the past. Adding fuel to the fire, VentureBeat claims it will be two LG smartwatch options.

Furthermore, these two high-end watches will be the first to run on the new and improved Android Wear 2.0 software update. Bringing loads of improvements to wearables and our wrist. Additionally, both will support Android Pay for mobile payments, along with the Google Assistant.

Release Date

According to popular leakster Evan Blass, Google will release Android Wear 2.0 on February 9th at the LG Watch launch event.

On that day LG and Google will unveil two devices that look similar to the render above. Following will be a global release of Android Wear 2.0 over the course of a week or two.

Rumors claim both will be impressive new smartwatches. One called the LG Watch Sport, and a smaller more affordable and stylish LG Watch Style. It’s said both will have a digital crown similar to the Apple Watch, but still have a touchscreen at the same time. This will be the smartwatch worth buying in 2017.

All said and done we still don’t know too much right now. However, if February 9th truly is the day more information should surface soon. For now, we’ll have to wait for additional details to be sure. Either way, stay tuned for more details and be on the lookout for two stunning Android Wear 2.0 watches by Google and LG.

When it comes to buying a smartwatch there are countless options available, but finding something stylish and petite for women is hard to find. The new Moto 360 2nd Gen has a smaller option for women, but today Huawei released two brand new Android Wear smartwatches specifically with the ladies in mind.

The Huawei Smartwatch running Google’s latest Android Wear software was released earlier this year, and is arguably one of the best smartwatches on the market. It has a great design, good styling, a full round face and more, but it’s about to get even better with thin straps and Swarovski crystals.

Today at CES 2016 Huawei unveiled two more versions of the Huawei Watch. They’ll officially be called the Huawei Watch “Elegant” and “Jewel” with the last one having some crystals and added flair for those who want a flashy watch. Here’s what we know so far.

Screen Shot 2016-01-05 at 10.50.59 AM

Live in Las Vegas for CES 2016 Huawei announced both new watches, but didn’t have too many other details to share at the show. What we do know though, is one of the fanciest and best looking Android Wear smartwatches is now targeting women specifically. Finally giving the ladies something worth buying, that has the elegance and style to go with it, rather than look like everything else.

Read: Huawei Watch Review: The Best Android Wear Watch

The new Huawei Watch Elegant and Jewel are very similar to Huawei’s current Android Wear smartwatch, but actually slightly larger. It comes in 2mm bigger with a 1.4-inch display, which should look even better than before, but it’s the rest of the watch that makes it geared for women.

Huawei-watch-women

Shown above are both of Huawei’s new Android Wear smartwatch options for women. The Elegant model on the left has the same overall specs and design as the original, but a few key changes for ladies. Those being a beautiful gold housing, thinner watch straps with a more feminine design and material, and there are even pre-loaded watch faces that aren’t as “nerdy” like most Android Wear watches available today.

Then of course we have the new Huawei Watch Jewel, which as you can expect by the name, actually has Jewels on the front bezel. This makes it one of the best looking Android Wear watches I’ve seen to date, but sadly it’s only for women. The front is covered in Swarovski crystals, or Jewels, to give it added styling. It comes with the same gold casing, 18mm lugs for the watch straps, but thin and stylish watch straps for women.

Huawei has some pretty odd names for these two new watches, but there’s no arguing they look pretty good. It’s worth nothing that both watches will come pre-loaded with the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow version of Android Wear, and 10 specifically designed “exclusive feminine” watch faces. Rather than the typical watch faces available on all current watches, and the regular Huawei Watch.

The current Huawei Watch retails for $349 and up, and comes with a few different options for the band, and we’re expecting something similar for these women models. Huawei stated they’ll be available in Q1 of 2016, but had no exact release date or pricing to announce at this time. Stay tuned for more details.

Back in early September Motorola announced and released a trio of new Android smartphones, the 2nd Gen Moto 360 smartwatch, and surprised many with a new Moto 360 Sport smartwatch. Since then all of the devices have been released, except for the Moto 360 Sport. Today, Motorola finally revealed it will be available starting December 18th.

Last year the Moto 360 was the most popular Android smartwatch, which arrived before the Apple Watch, and ran Google’s forked version of Android called Android Wear. Making our watch an extension of our smartphones for easy access, quick notifications, checking and replying to emails or texts and much more. However, since then most wearable devices have moved towards the fitness market, and today Motorola is doing the same.

The 2nd Gen Moto 360 was announced in early September and has been one of the most popular smartwatches again. Offering a big round display in two sizes, more customization than any smartwatch to date, and beautiful genuine leather materials. More on the Moto 360 can be found above, but those outdoorsy users and fitness fanatics will want to read on for the Moto 360 Sport release date and details.

360SportHero_v2

When Motorola announced the new 2nd Gen Moto 360 smartwatch they also confirmed a better, more rugged and durable version called the Moto 360 Sport was coming soon, but that’s about all they had to share back in September. They did however state it had brand new screen technology making it great to view while outdoors, it’s water-resistant, and comes in an array of different options and band colors. Today, we have everything buyers need to know.

The Moto 360 Sport will officially be released on December 18th in the UK and France, but we don’t have good news for those in the United States. The fitness-themed wearable smartwatch won’t be available in the US until January 7th, and will be priced at $299. Users will also be available to pickup or try the Moto 360 Sport in Best Buy stores around the country starting on January 10th. Just in time for those New Years resolutions. It will also be available in Brazil, Canada, China, Mexico and Spain sometime during the new year in 2016, but no exact date was given.

Motorola’s new smartwatch is made for the outdoors, built to last, has its own GPS chip (unlike most smartwatches) so it doesn’t always need to be tethered or connected to a smartphone to give runners or users valuable data.

Screen-Shot-2015-09-02-at-4.29.45-PM-720x557

The Moto 360 Sport is very similar to the current 2nd Gen Moto 360, but has a lot of small changes or improvements to make it more fitness oriented, to be more durable, and as we said above, work better outdoors. It has an “AnyLight hybrid LCD display” that is bright, but also dim and crisp while indoors, which promises to look good, but still preserve battery life. Here’s what Motorola had to say about the new Moto 360 Sport:

  • Designed for sports. Built to last: Push yourself to the limit without worrying about your watch. Strong silicone construction doesn’t absorb sweat and resists fading or staining, while side ventilation channels help you stay cool.
  • Built-in GPS keeps you going: Moto 360 Sport has built-in GPS that works seamlessly with Moto Body to measure your performance. Track your distance traveled, pace, lap times and more. There’s no need to carry your phone to know exactly how you’re doing.
  • Popular fitness apps: Moto 360 Sport works seamlessly with Android fitness apps including MapMyRun, Under Armour Record, Strava, Google Fit and Fitbit. Moto Body records your workout data and syncs with these apps, so your exercise history is always up to date.
  • Heart rate at a glance: Continuously track your heart rate during a run to monitor your performance. And with Moto Body, measure the time you spend in different heart rate zones to make sure you’re achieving your fitness goals
  • Brilliant, indoors and out: Motorola AnyLight is the world’s first hybrid display that lets you see things clearly both indoors and out. Indoors, it works like any beautiful LCD screen. Step outside and it reflects natural sunlight, making the screen easy to read.
  • Better view. All the way around: On a watch face, every millimeter counts. The classic round design of Moto 360 Sport features edge-to-edge glass and an exceptionally thin bezel, giving you the most viewing area in the least amount of space.
  • Wear it for life: Moto 360 Sport gives you the power of Android Wear, so you can keep up with your entire life, not just your workouts. Read Gmail messages and calendar invites, reply to friends on WhatsApp, get up-to-the-minute traffic and weather reports, and so much more of what matters to you all while staying in the zone.
  • Music on the move: Sync your favorite playlists and podcasts from Google Play Music with your Moto 360 Sport, then listen to music on your run or at the gym without taking your phone along for the ride.
  • Just a little coaching: Receive spontaneous notifications throughout the day that keep you informed, up to date and inspired. Plus get a weekly email summarizing your progress, or even more detailed information using the Moto Body phone app.
  • All day battery. Even in Ambient Mode: The new Moto 360 Sport gives you better battery life than ever before. Now with Ambient Mode turned on, the time is always visible and the battery still lasts an entire day.

Based on the images and what we’ve seen so far the Moto 360 Sport has a 42mm display, not the bigger screen that’s available on the regular 360, but will reach out to Motorola for clarification.

The Moto 360 Sport will come in three color options at launch: Black with Grey bezel, White with White bezel, and Red with Grey bezel. It will be $299 on Motorola.com or Best Buy, and available in the United States from January 7th, and in the UK on December 18th.

A smartwatch buyer can choose from at least a half-dozen options, but which one is best? Since they all run the same operating system, hardware design is the only way to differentiate between them. That is why Huawei designed their first entry into the increasingly competitive Android Wear market with a little class. How does it compare with the other Android Wear watches and the Apple Watch?

Those not familiar with Huawei should know the Chinese company increasingly grabs headlines, especially since they’re making one of Google’s new Nexus Android smart phones released in 2015. They also made a couple of low-cost smart phones that we really liked – the Huawei P8 Lite and Huawei Ascend Mate 2. Huawei recently entered the US market. They specialize in budget phones and mostly Android-based accessories like their fitness band/Bluetooth headset, the Huawei TalkBand B2.

Huawei Watch Design and Hardware

The Huawei Watch ($349.99) grabbed headlines because it refined the round Android Wear designs with a few tiny details that make all the difference. It resembles the Moto 360 with the thick round watch. The single button rests along the upper right edge at about 2 o’clock. There is a raised, chiseled bezel and the band attaches via extruding band connectors.

The model we’re reviewing came with a black leather band and stainless steel buckle that matches the watch case. It’s very simple. It’s also pricy at $350, the same price as the 38mm Apple Watch.

Other design options include Rose Gold and Black Stainless Steel. These cost more than the basic Stainless Steel with black leather review unit. These options jump in price from $400 to $800. Huawei also offers optional bands that range in price from $79.99 to $169.99. All of them look nice and will appeal to varying preferences.

The watch measures 42mm wide and 11.3mm thick. Compare that to the 10.5mm on the Apple Watch. The two are not that different, but the rounded edges of the Apple Watch make it look thinner than the hard angles of the Huawei Watch. It is still slightly thinner than the new Moto 360 which measures 11.4mm.

The 400 x 400 resolution 1.4-inch AMOLED display looks beautiful. The watch runs on a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 4GB of storage for music. This leads to a beautiful Android Wear watch face that runs smoothly and fluidly.

The round face does make it hard to interact with the Android Wear cards which show up at the bottom half of the screen. Swiping them away takes a full screen wipe and sometimes they won’t go away. I often swipe a few times before a card dismisses.

The watch includes a gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer, and a heart rate monitor.

The Bluetooth 4.1 radio connects easily and reliably. The first generation of Android Wear watches often disconnected. The Huawei Watch did drop the connection a couple of times during initial setup, but rarely disconnected after that.

A magnetic disk with a USB cable connected charges the watch. Snap it quickly onto the back of the watch for a solid connection. It is easy to remove, but does not fall apart so long as the user places it on their desk or nightstand.

The design feels solid and seems durable. It should last a long time and look good long after the user first puts it on.

Software, Apps and Compatibility

The Huawei Watch comes with the latest version of the Android Wear operating system. All apps designed to run on round watches will work great on the Huawei Watch.

The free Android Wear app controls settings and makes it easy to install watch faces and apps. Users connect to the watch using Android Wear and update the watch firmware through the app.

Typical Android Wear fitness tracking gets full support and makes it useful for tracking steps, running, exercise and your heart rate.

The first round of Android Wear watches that now work with iPhone includes the Huawei Watch.

Huawei Watch and the Competition

The Huawei Watch compares well to the Android Wear competition. It looks as good as any other watch. The more expensive options look elegant and fashionable, even though they are a little bulky. Android Wear watches do not  look as nice as expensive mainstream high-end watches, but the Huawei looks beautiful.

Some people do not like the round design. People who prefer square watch faces will not like the Huawei Watch. However, it seems that more people prefer round to square since they seem to sell better.

The Android Wear landscape offers a lot of options and the Huawei Watch looks like the best in show. It is more attractive, sturdier and comes with better looking design options. It does cost a little more.

How does it compare with the Apple Watch? As stated above, it is slightly thicker and the design makes it look bulkier. Android Wear will work with Android phones and the iPhone. When connected to an iPhone, fewer features will be available (see above for more details).

Hawei Watch Back

Apple Watch also lets users make or receive calls and talk to people on the watch. The new LG Watch Urbane coming out soon will do this too. Samsung introduced this feature in an early Galaxy Gear watch and still offers this in the Gear S2.

Most people will make the choice between an Apple Watch and Android Wear watch after buying their phones and then getting the watch to match. If you own an iPhone, you will probably prefer the Apple Watch over the Huawei Watch. However, if you own an Android phone, you can not choose an Apple Watch.

Recommendation

The Huawei Watch currently offers the best option on the Android Wear platform. The Huawei Watch looks elegant and offers great design as well as multiple attractive style options depending on the buyer’s cash flow. Even iPhone owners can take a look. If an iPhone owner prefers a stainless steel round watch, then the Huawei Watch is a usable option at a lower price than the Stainless Steel Apple Watch. Android Wear works well on iPhone, but does not give users the same level of integration. The most important features work fine, including notifications and fitness tracking.

We give the Huawei Watch a hearty recommendation. It is worth paying a little more for this attractive and well-designed Android Wear smartwatch.
