5 Reasons to Wait for Apple Watch 9 & 4 Reasons Not To is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.

Apple’s reportedly working on a new Apple Watch 9 and there are some great reasons to wait for the 2023 Apple Watch.

If you’re thinking about buying a brand new Apple Watch, you’ve got some excellent options. The Apple Watch 8, Apple Watch Ultra, and Apple Watch SE 2 are the company’s flagship devices and they’re worth a look if you’re in the hunt for a newer model.

You’ll also want to investigate older Apple Watch models like the Apple Watch 7, Apple Watch 6, and Apple Watch SE. While they aren’t the top-of-the-line, they’re all still capable and cheaper than they once were.

While you might be tempted to buy a new Apple Watch or a smartwatch outside of Apple’s ecosystem, you should take note of Apple’s plans for 2023.

Apple Watch 9 Rumors

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will launch two Apple Watch 9 models (codenamed N207 and N208) and a new Apple Watch Ultra (codenamed N210) later this year. Gurman says Apple won’t launch a new Apple Watch SE in 2023.

We fully expect Apple to stick with familiar case sizes. This means you can expect the Apple Watch 9 to come in 41mm and 45mm case size options.

We don’t expect a huge leap from last year’s models from a hardware standpoint, but we do expect the new Apple Watch models to come with nice upgrades.

Apple Watch 9 rumors put those of you searching for a new smartwatch in a tough position. Many people will be perfectly fine buying a device right now, but others may want to hang around and wait for Apple’s inevitable announcements.

In this guide we’ll take you through the best reasons to consider waiting for the Apple Watch 9 series and the best reasons to go with another device.

Wait for Better Performance

Wait for Better Performance

Apple generally makes yearly improvements to the Apple Watch's performance and we should see the company make some improvements this year.

The current flagship Apple Watch models deliver solid battery life, but we could see Apple take things even further with new chips in 2023.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, while the 2023 Apple Watch models will likely be modest updates, they will have a faster chip on board.

As he notes, Apple hasn't upgraded the main processor inside the Apple Watch for three years running so this would certainly be a welcomed change.

In his new Power On Discord channel, Gurman says the new processor will likely be based on the A15 chip that Apple first used in the iPhone 13.

If you aren't thrilled with the Apple Watch's current horsepower (battery life, speed, load times), you might want to hang back and wait for the new models.

iPhone 15 Event: 5 Things to Expect from Apple is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.

Apple is gearing up to announce new products this fall and we want to outline what you can expect from the company’s upcoming iPhone 15 event.

The iPhone 15 launch event is confirmed for September 12th and it kicks off at 10AM Pacific, 1PM Eastern. We expect it to be a pre-recorded show with an in-person element built-in.

With that in mind, here’s what you can expect at the iPhone 15 event in September. From new iPhones, to new Apple Watches, the showcase will cover a lot of ground.

iPhone 15 & iPhone 15 Pro

The iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max will undoubtedly be the stars of the show.

Apple is reportedly making some pretty big changes to the iPhone in 2023 and highlights include a new titanium design with a new Action button, USB-C in place of Lightning, improvements to the camera including a periscope lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, a new processor in the Pro models, and more storage.

The devices won’t take a quantum leap from last year’s iPhone 14 series, we could see much bigger changes come in 2024 on the iPhone 16 series, but the iPhone 15 series is shaping up as a solid replacement for last year’s flagship.

In addition to outlining/marketing all of the changes it’s made to the iPhone, you can expect Apple to confirm the iPhone 15 pre-order date, price, and release date.

As of right now we expect all iPhone 15 models to go on sale in September though we could see at least one model’s (iPhone 15 Pro Max) release date get pushed into October.

Apple Watch 9

It looks like Apple will stick with a yearly upgrade cycle for the Apple Watch as well. The company is expected to announce two new versions of the Apple Watch and we’ll start with the Apple Watch Series 9.

Like the iPhone 15, we are expecting a fairly modest upgrade though the Apple Watch 9 should come with one change that may convince owners of older models like the Apple Watch 4 to upgrade.

Apple hasn’t upgraded the main processor inside the Apple Watch for three years running, but it looks like it will finally supply its smartwatch with a new processor.

The Apple Watch 9’s new processor will likely be based on the A15 chip the company first used in the iPhone 13. The improved chip should lead to better all-around performance in areas like speed and battery life.

We’re also expecting the new Watch models to come with some big software upgrades. watchOS 10, the operating system that will power the new devices, is a substantial upgrade and the Apple Watch 9 models should get exclusive features to help separate them from the Apple Watch 8 and older versions of the wearable.

Apple will confirm the Apple Watch 9 release date, price, and pre-order during the show. We expect it to go on sale shortly after the conclusion of the show.

Apple Watch Ultra 2

The other Apple Watch on tap for Apple’s iPhone 15 event is a new version of the Apple Watch Ultra, the company’s high-end model.

Like the Apple Watch 9 models, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 will most likely be a refresh rather than a complete overhaul. It should include the same processor upgrade coming on board the Apple Watch 9.

We’ve also heard the Apple Watch Ultra 2’s design may be lighter than the original. The current version of the Apple Watch Ultra weighs a lot more, 61.3 grams vs. 32 grams, than the Apple Watch 8.

There’s also chatter about a new black titanium color.

iOS 17 & iPadOS 17

In addition to new hardware, you can expect Apple to confirm important information about its upcoming software.

We already mentioned watchOS 10, but the company is also hard at work on new software for the Apple TV, iPad, iPhone, and Mac.

During the iPhone 15 event, look for Apple to touch on iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, the new operating systems coming to iPhone and iPad.

Both are currently in beta and while they don’t project as huge upgrades, they both have some very exciting features on board.

The iOS 17/iPadOS 17 release date will land sometime between the iPhone 15 announcement and the iPhone 15 release date. So, with the event now confirmed for September 12th, you can expect the iOS 17 release date to land the week of September 18th.

macOS Sonoma

Apple’s also cooking up a new version of macOS for Mac dubbed macOS Sonoma.

It’s also on the lighter side, but the operating is set to bring new screen savers, widgets on the desktop, and improvements to video conferencing to Mac users.

We’ll get a macOS Sonoma release date/release window confirmed on stage during the iPhone event and the software will probably land in October after iOS 17.

Wildcard: iPad mini 7

And finally, a wildcard. This is an announcement we’re not as confident about, but felt the need to include it because there’s certainly a chance it happens on stage during the fall event.

Apple’s reportedly working on several new iPad models. Among them, new iPad Pros, a new iPad Air 6, and a brand new iPad mini 7. Of these, only the iPad mini 7 has a chance to emerge this fall.

We’ve heard that we may see it join the iPhone 15 on stage. If it does, you can expect a very light refresh. A new processor will likely be the device’s main selling point.

Of course, there’s also a chance the iPad mini 7 misses this event and joins the new iPad Pros and iPad mini 6 in 2024.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple is planning a launch for October so it’s possible the device arrives a month after the new iPhones.

It’s unclear if it will be a formal event or just a press release dump. As of right now, we expect the latter.

6 Reasons to Wait for the iPhone 15 & 5 Reasons Not To

Wait for Design Changes

Wait for Design Changes

Last year, Apple introduced a brand new pill-shaped notch the company calls Dynamic Island. Unfortunately, this change is only available on the company's high-end iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. That will likely change this year.

Analyst Ross Young believes Apple could bring Dynamic Island to the lower-end iPhone 15 models. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman does as well.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the iPhone 15's proximity sensor will be integrated into Dynamic Island. The proximity sensor on the iPhone 14 Pro models is under the display outside of Dynamic Island. This could lead to Face ID improvements.

This might give some of you considering Apple's iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Plus a reason to hold out and wait for the new models.

On the flip side, Young doesn't think the standard iPhone 15 models will get 120Hz/LTPO like the iPhone 15 Pro models. This has been backed up by another source who says the iPhone 15/iPhone 15 Plus won't get ProMotion and Always-On display capabilities.

We've heard the the iPhone 15 Max's design will be made out of titanium as opposed to stainless steel. The frame supposedly has a brushed finish.

Leaker ShrimpApplePro claims early information suggests Apple is indeed working on a titanium design. The leaker says the design may also incorporate curved rear edges and a glass back.

In a newer tweet, the leaker says the iPhone 15 Pro models will "have thinner bezels" with curved edges. The display is reportedly still flat, however.

ShrimpApplePro says additional sources now agree with the information and that the bezels on the iPhone 15 Pro models will indeed be thinner.

In a tweet, well-known leaker Ice Universe says the iPhone 15 Pro Max will break the record for thinnest bezels on a smartphone. The record is currently held by the Xiaomi 13.

In a follow up tweet, he's shown off what are evidently glass displays and third-party screen protectors for the iPhone 15 series. The bezels are indeed extremely thin.

Analyst Jeff Pu from Haitong International Securities also believes the company is working to deliver a new titanium design. So does Gurman.

We've seen an iPhone 15 Pro dummy unit leak on the Chinese version of TikTok and it gives us a glimpse at what the device might look like. CAD images of the iPhone 15 Pro from 9to5Mac also show us what the final product could look like.

We've also heard the iPhone 15 Pro will have a new mute button that replaces the switch. This "Action" button could work like it does on the Apple Watch Ultra in that it will allow users to map it to different functions.

This new addition has seemingly been confirmed by the iOS 17 beta.

You can see it in AppleInsider's video above.

Apple Watch owners are running into bugs and performance issues on the latest version of watchOS 9 and in this guide we’ll take users through everything important to know about the current state of these problems.

Apple’s released a watchOS 9.6.1 update and some Apple Watch users are running into trouble on the company’s latest software. Some of these problems are brand new, others have carried over from older versions of watchOS.

Some of these issues will disappear after a day or two after installing new software while others may require a fix from Apple down the road.

In this watchOS 9 problems guide we’ll take you through the most prominent bugs and performance issues. We’ll show you where to find potential fixes for the most common watchOS 9 problems and provide you with some resources that will help if you run into trouble on your watch.

We’ll also touch on the watchOS downgrade and outline what you can expect from Apple and watchOS 9 software updates down the road.

watchOS 9 Problems

As we push away from Apple’s latest watchOS 9 software release we’re hearing about the issues plaguing the software.

Some watchOS users are having trouble downloading the latest upgrade. We’ve also heard about the follow issues and we’ve seen some of these very same problems on the Apple Watch models in our possession:

  • Abnormal battery drain
  • Bluetooth issues
  • Problems with various first and third-party applications
  • UI lag
  • Issues with cellular service
  • Charging issues
  • Pairing issues
  • Issues with Notifications
  • Green-tint issues.

We expect the list of watchOS 9 problems to grow as more Apple Watch users transition from older versions of watchOS 9 to the latest version.

Where to Find watchOS 9 Reviews

If you’re currently running watchOS 9.6.1 on your Apple Watch, or if you’re planning to upgrade in the near future, you’ll want to dig through feedback from other users.

This feedback about Apple’s latest software will alert you to bugs and performance issues others are seeing on the same Apple Watch model. As a reminder, watchOS 9 supports the following models:

  • Apple Watch Series 4
  • Apple Watch Series 5
  • Apple Watch SE.
  • Apple Watch Series 6
  • Apple Watch Series 7
  • Apple Watch Series 8
  • Apple Watch Ultra

We also recommend keeping an eye on YouTube, Apple’s discussion forums, social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, and the MacRumors forums for additional feedback about watchOS 9’s performance.

How to Fix watchOS 9 Problems

If you run into a major problem on your Apple Watch after installing watchOS 9.6.1 you may need to contact Apple for help. That being said, you may be able to fix the problem(s) on your own.

In many cases, restarting your Apple Watch and/or your iPhone will fix an issue. In particular, this can iron out performance issues like abnormal battery drain and UI lag.

If you notice a big red exclamation mark on your device’s face, you’ll want to perform a hard reset. Force restarting your Apple Watch may also fix performance issues.

If you’re having issues charging your Apple Watch, make sure the device is situated properly on the charger. You may also want to try a different cord and/or outlet to see if that resolves the issue.

For more potential fixes, you should head on over to Apple’s discussion forums. If they can’t help you, you might want to get in contact with Apple Support via Twitter or via the company’s website.

If you still can’t fix your issue(s), you might want to schedule an appointment to see a Genius at your local Apple Store as they should be able to diagnose your issue(s) relatively quickly.

watchOS Downgrade

While you can move back to older software on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, downgrading isn’t an option for the Apple Watch. In other words, once you install a new software update on your Apple Watch, there’s no getting off that software until Apple releases new firmware.

You can go to an Apple Store if your watch is completely broken on watchOS 9, but they will replace it if the device is under warranty, not help you downgrade to watchOS 8.

What’s Next

If your Apple Watch is struggling on watchOS 9.6.1 or an older version of watchOS, you’re on your own for the time being.

watchOS 9.6.1 was the last known update in the company’s watchOS 9 pipeline so it’s unclear when, or even if, a new version will roll out.

Apple’s currently working on its new watchOS 10 operating system so watchOS 9 development has slowed down. We could see another bug fix update, but don’t expect anything significant down the road.

As for watchOS 10, the company will push the operating system to the Apple Watch models later this year, probably sometime in mid-September alongside iOS 17 for iPhone.

watchOS 10 Release Date & Time: What You Need to Know is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.

If you’re curious about the watchOS 10 release date for Apple, we’ll guide you through everything you need to know about its arrival in this walkthrough.

Apple’s confirmed watchOS 10, the next operating system for Apple Watch. The software is currently in development and it will bring new features, enhancements, and more to compatible Apple Watch models.

We don’t have an exact watchOS 10 release date from Apple yet, but we have a pretty good idea about what to expect from the release window and release time for the operating system.

Our watchOS 10 release date guide we’ll help you properly manage expectations and help you prepare for its release for Apple Watch later this year.

Which Apple Watches Will Get watchOS 10?

Apple’s confirmed watchOS 10 eligible Watch models and all watchOS 9-powered devices will make the move to the new operating system.

Below is the list of eligible Apple Watch models that will get upgraded to watchOS 10:

watchOS 10 Supported Devices

  • Apple Watch Series 4
  • Apple Watch Series 5
  • Apple Watch SE
  • Apple Watch Series 6
  • Apple Watch Series 7
  • Apple Watch Series 8
  • Apple Watch Ultra

It’s also important to note that watchOS 10 requires iPhone XS, iPhone XR or later running iOS 17, Apple’s new operating system for iPhone.

watchOS 10 Beta

The official version of watchOS 10 won’t land for weeks, but you can try the new operating system on your Apple Watch before the stable firmware arrives.

There are two versions of the watchOS 10 beta. There’s a developer beta and there’s a beta for users in the company’s Beta Software Program. Both are available right now.

watchOS 10 Beta Release Time

Apple usually pushes new beta software every couple of weeks with releases coming more frequently as we approach the final release in the fall.

Like regular watchOS releases, the company tends to release new watchOS beta software around 10AM Pacific and that’s what you should expect from the watchOS 10 beta process moving forward.

watchOS 10 Release Date

The watchOS 10 beta will stretch for several months leading up to the release of the final version of the beta, known as the Golden Master (GM).

Apple usually pushes new watchOS operating systems in September and that’s what you should expect from the watchOS 10 release date right now.

Look for the watchOS 10 release date to get confirmed on stage during Apple’s fall iPhone event for the iPhone 15 series. We expect the event to take place in September and September 12th is the current front-runner for the honor.

If Apple announces the Apple Watch 9 on September 12th, then you can expect the watchOS 10 release date to land the week of September 18th.

watchOS 10 Release Time

Apple probably won’t confirm a specific watchOS 10 release time on stage during its fall event, but the company is extremely predictable and almost always releases new software in and around 10AM Pacific.

This means if you live in London, England you should see the watchOS 10 update arrive around 6PM in the evening. If you live in Melbourne, Australia, you’ll need to stay up or wake up early if you want to install watchOS 10 right when it’s released.

Major watchOS releases like watchOS 10 are often plagued with download issues as Apple’s servers get slammed with requests from users.

Those of you looking to avoid download issues and error codes may want to wait a few hours before installing the watchOS 10 update.

4 Reasons Not to Install iOS 17 Beta & 11 Reasons You Should

Install to Help Improve Apple Improve iOS 17

Install to Help Improve Apple Improve iOS 17

Trying new features before they are officially released is exciting, but that's just part of it. Using the iOS 17 beta will also help Apple squash issues before they reach millions of iPhone users around the world.

Your feedback about the iOS 17 beta's performance could help the company discover a nasty bug or a glitch ahead of the final release later this year.

If you're sick of dealing with issues or sick of hearing friends and family complain about problems, think about giving the iOS 17 beta a try.

If you decide to download the iOS 17 beta and find an issue on board, make sure you report it to Apple. This way, engineers can get to work on a permanent fix.

If your Apple Watch is feeling sluggish, you might try clearing the cache. Deleting browsing data, history, and cookies, has the potential to speed your watch up.

The Apple Watch doesn’t come with a full blown version of Safari (or Google Chrome) for that matter, but you it does allow you to open up website links you receive in emails and messages from friends and family.

The data from these links can buildup over time and if you’re running out of space, getting rid of these files could have a positive impact on your Apple Watch’s performance.

Clearing the cache is a bit different on the Apple Watch as opposed to iPhone or iPad. It’s actually a lot easier and only requires a few quick steps.

Below we’ll detail how to get rid of website data on your Apple Watch. Note that you can’t do this from the Watch app on your iPhone.

How to Clear Cache on Apple Watch

  • First, open up the Settings app on your Apple Watch
  • Next, tap General
  • Once you’re in this section, scroll down and tap Website Data

  • If you want to go through with this process, tap Clear Website Data
  • Another popup will appear to confirm your decision

Apple notes this will remove website cookies, credentials, and other browsing data. It’s good to do this every once in awhile to keep your device feeling snappy.

Apple Watch Ultra users have been complaining about battery life issues and in this guide we’ll show you how to fix them so you can avoid a trip to the Apple Store.

The Apple Watch Ultra features Apple’s latest hardware and software improvements, but the rugged device isn’t immune to problems. One issue Apple Watch Ultra users have run into is abnormal battery drain.

In most cases, the issue is probably related to a software update or bad habits, but in some cases it might be an issue with the device’s hardware.

If none of the fixes below work, we recommend taking the device into the Apple Store and see if they can diagnose the issue. Your watch is under warranty so if there is a hardware issue, you should get taken care of.

Before you make an appointment, you should try and fix the issue on your own. In this guide we’ll show you how to quickly fix Apple Watch Ultra battery life problems.

Hard Reset Your Apple Watch Ultra

Before you try any of the other steps in this guide, try a simple restart. Power your Apple Watch Ultra down, wait a minute, and power it back on. Give it some time and see if the battery drain subsides.

If you’re still having issues, try hard resetting the device. If you don’t know how to perform a hard reset, please check out our walkthrough.

Update to the Latest Software

Apple continues to roll out new watchOS 9 software to the Apple Watch Ultra.

watchOS 9 x.x updates are milestone upgrades that typically include outward facing features and enhancements in addition to bug fixes and security patches.

watchOS 9 x.x.x upgrades are point updates and they typically focus on making under-the-hood improvements like security patches and bug fixes.

Both have the potential to solve your Apple Watch Ultra battery drain issues, even if Apple doesn’t list a fix for battery life issues in the update’s change log.

Head into your watch’s Settings app, either on the watch itself or on your iPhone, and check for an update. If you’re running older software, try updating your device and see if that irons out the problem.

Update Your Apps

You should also keep the applications on your Apple Watch Ultra updated with the latest firmware. This could help alleviate battery problems.

To do this, make sure your device is set to automatically download app updates. Here’s how to check if this function is turned on on your watch:

On Apple Watch

  • Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch Ultra
  • Scroll down and tap App Store
  • Make sure Automatic Updates is toggled on

On iPhone

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Scroll down and tap App Store
  • Make sure Automatic Updates is toggled on

You may also want to close apps when you aren’t using them just to be safe. Apps like the Walkie-Talkie can drain your device’s battery.

Manage the Display

Properly managing your Apple Watch Ultra’s display will help you stave off unnecessary battery drain. There are a few ways to do this.

Make sure your watch’s display is at an appropriate level of brightness for the environment you’re in. There are a couple of ways to adjust your Apple Watch Ultra’s screen brightness:

  • On your Apple Watch, open the Settings app
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Use the slider at the top to adjust the brightness of the display

If you’d prefer to adjust the brightness from your iPhone, you can do that too:

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Tap General
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Use the slider at the top to adjust the brightness of your Apple Watch Ultra’s display

If you don’t need your watch’s screen to turn on every time you move your wrist, turn off the “Wake On Wrist Raise” function.

On Apple Watch:

  • Open the Settings app
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Toggle Wake on Wrist Raise off

On iPhone:

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Tap General
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Toggle Wake on Wrist Raise off

You may also want to turn your Apple Watch Ultra’s Always On display feature off. Turning it off can increase the device’s battery life. Here’s how to do that:

  • Open the Settings app on your watch.
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Scroll down and tap Always On
  • Tap Always On to toggle it on or off

You can always toggle it back on if you a) rely on the feature b) it doesn’t make a huge difference.

Turn Off Background App Refresh

Your watch’s Background App Refresh feature keeps apps data fresh in the background. It can also eat up battery life if it’s not managed properly.

Unless you really like the feature, and we don’t blame you if you do, we recommend toggling it off, or limiting it to certain apps. Here’s how you do that:

On Apple Watch

  • Open up the Settings app
  • Tap General
  • Tap Background App Refresh
  • Toggle Background App Refresh off

On iPhone

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Tap General
  • Tap Background App Refresh
  • Toggle Background App Refresh off

Use Low Power Mode

Your watch has a nifty feature called Low Power Mode that saves battery life by limiting sensors and Wi-Fi connectivity. It’s useful in a pinch though you many want to keep it on if your battery drain issues are really bad.

You can flip Low Power Mode on from the Battery section in your watch’s Settings app. Low Power Mode is also available for Workouts, here’s how to utilize that:

On Apple Watch

  • Open up the Settings app
  • Scroll down and tap on Workout
  • Toggle Low Power Mode on

On iPhone

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Scroll down and tap Workout
  • Toggle Low Power Mode on

If you frequently use your watch during workouts, it might be a good idea to toggle it in for the duration of your workout.

Optimize Battery Charging

As your Apple Watch Ultra ages, the battery will start to degrade. This is natural. If you want to slow down the aging process, you’ll want to turn Optimized Battery Charging on. Here’s how to do it:

  • Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch
  • Scroll down and tap on Battery
  • Tap Battery Health
  • Toggle Optimized Battery Charging on

Turning this function on will help reduce battery aging by learning from your daily charging routines.

Unpair Your Apple Watch Ultra

If none of the above fixes work, you can try unpairing your Apple Watch Ultra from your iPhone. This process is fairly involved and will take time to complete and it should only be used as a last resort.

If you want to go through with it, you’ll want to check out Apple’s detailed guide.

If your Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch SE 2 battery life starts draining faster than you think it should, there are several fixes you can try before getting in touch with Apple for support.

While we haven’t seen tons of complaints about Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch SE 2 battery drain in 2023, some owners are running into the issue.

In most cases, the problems are related to the software powering the watch or bad user habits. However, there’s also a chance the issue is hardware-related. If you try all of the fixes below and nothing works, you might have a problem with your watch’s battery.

If you think that might be the case, you’ll need to get in contact with Apple support so they can help diagnose the issue. If they find a problem, and your device is under warranty, the company should replace it.

Before you contact Apple though, have a look at our fixes for Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch SE 2 battery life problems. These have worked for us in the past and there’s a chance they work for you too. In most cases, these fixes will only take you a few minutes to try.

Restart Your Watch

Before you do anything else, try a simple restart. Power your Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch SE 2 down, wait a minute, and then power it back on.

If the battery drain is really bad, you can try force restarting your watch. If you don’t know how to do that, check out our walkthrough.

Update Your Watch

If that doesn’t resolve the issue, you’ll want to make sure your Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch SE 2 is running the latest firmware.

Both models are currently powered by Apple’s watchOS 9 operating system and will make the move to the company’s watchOS 10 operating system later this year.

Check the Settings app on your watch or on your iPhone and determine if your software is up-to-date. If it’s not, consider upgrading.

New software has the potential to iron out bad battery life even if a specific fix isn’t listed in the firmware’s change log.

Update Your Apps

You also should make sure the applications on your Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch SE 2 are all up-to-date.

Developers roll out a constant stream of bug fixes and there’s a chance an update solves the battery drain issues you’re seeing on your watch.

In order to keep your apps up-to-date with the latest fixes, you’ll want to turn on automatic app updates. This will ensure you’re running the latest version of an app. Here’s how to turn this on.

On Apple Watch

  • Open the Settings app on your watch
  • Scroll down and tap App Store
  • Make sure Automatic Updates is toggled on

On iPhone

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Scroll down and tap App Store
  • Make sure Automatic Updates is toggled on

You might also want to close apps you aren’t using.

Manage the Display

Another way to help conserve battery life is by properly managing your Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch SE 2’s display. If the display is constantly at max brightness, it can drain the battery. Here’s how to manage screen brightness on your watch:

On Apple Watch

  • On your Apple Watch, open the Settings app
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Use the slider at the top to adjust the brightness of the display

On iPhone

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Tap General
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Use the slider at the top to adjust the brightness of your watch’s display

If you don’t need the watch’s screen to turn on every time you move your wrist, try turning off the “Wake On Wrist Raise” function. Here’s how to do that:

On Apple Watch:

  • Open the Settings app
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Toggle Wake on Wrist Raise off

On iPhone:

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Tap General
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Toggle Wake on Wrist Raise off

Adjust Haptic Feedback

If you’re really desperate, you might want to adjust the haptic feedback on your watch. You can adjust the strength of the alerts on your iPhone or the watch itself. If you want to turn them off completely, you can try that too.

On Apple Watch

  • Open the Settings app
  • Scroll down and tap on Sounds & Haptics
  • Scroll down again and find the Haptics section
  • Toggle Haptic Alerts to off or change from Prominent to Default

On iPhone

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Scroll down and tap on Sounds & Haptics
  • Toggle Haptic Alerts to off or change from Prominent to Default

Turn Off Background App Refresh

Your Apple Watch’s Background App Refresh feature keeps app data fresh in the background. It can be useful, but it can eat up battery life. If you don’t need this feature active, try turning it off.

On Apple Watch

  • Open up the Settings app
  • Tap General
  • Tap Background App Refresh
  • Toggle Background App Refresh off

On iPhone

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Tap General
  • Tap Background App Refresh
  • Toggle Background App Refresh off

Optimize Battery Charging

As your Apple Watch SE/Apple Watch SE 2 gets older, its battery will start to degrade.

If you want to slow this process down, and you should if you plan on keeping it for several years, you’ll want to turn the Optimized Battery Charging function on.

  • Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch
  • Scroll down and tap on Battery
  • Tap Battery Health
  • Toggle Optimized Battery Charging on

This feature will help reduce battery aging by learning from your daily charging routines.

Unpair Your Watch

If none of these fixes/tips help, you can try unpairing your Apple Watch SE/Apple Watch SE 2 from your iPhone. This should only be used as a last resort. If you want to go through with it, check out Apple’s detailed guide.

If that still doesn’t help, you’ll want to contact Apple support and see if they can help remedy the issue.

If you encounter horrible battery drain on your Apple Watch 8, there are some steps you should take before getting in touch with Apple customer service.

The Apple Watch 8 is, alongside the Apple Watch Ultra, Apple’s flagship smartphone. It arrived nine months ago with the company’s latest hardware and software. And while it boasts the latest bells and whistles, it’s not immune to problems.

One of the more common Apple Watch 8 problems we’ve heard about is excessive battery drain. This is an issue that impacts every version of the Apple Watch so it’s not surprising to see Apple Watch 8 users dealing with it.

Now keep in mind, most of these problems are related to watchOS 9, the operating system that powers the device. However, some users may have faulty hardware.

If you can’t fix your issue using the fixes in our guide, you might want to take your Apple Watch 8 into an Apple Store so they can run tests. Before you settle on that though, you’ll want to try fixing the issue on your own.

In this guide we’ll outline the fixes that have worked for us in the past and they may help you alleviate your Apple Watch 8 battery life problems in a matter of minutes.

Restart Your Apple Watch 8

Before you do anything else, try restarting your Apple Watch 8. Restarting your watch could have a profound impact on its performance. And best of all, it takes very little time.

Power down your device, wait a minute or two, and then power it back on and see if your battery life improves. You might want to give it a day or so to let the device stabilize.

If you’re really in a pinch, you might try force restarting your watch. If you don’t know how to do that, please check out our walkthrough.

Update Your Watch

Periodically, Apple will roll out new software to your Apple Watch 8. Note that the device is currently running watchOS 9, but it will move to watchOS 10 in the fall.

Apple’s (x.x) updates are milestone upgrades that typically include outward facing features and enhancements as well as bug fixes and security patches.

The watchOS (x.x.x) upgrades are point updates and they typically focus on making under-the-hood improvements (security patches, bug fixes).

Both types of watchOS updates have the potential to solve your Apple Watch 8 battery drain issues, even if a specific fix isn’t listed in the change log.

If you’re running older software, try updating your Apple Watch and see if that helps.

Update Your Apps

You’ll also want to make sure your Apple Watch 8 has the latest app updates installed. Developers continually upgrade their applications and keeping them updating could help stave off battery life issues.

To do this, make sure your watch is set to automatically download app updates. Here’s how to check if this function is turned on on your device:

On Apple Watch

  • Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch 8
  • Scroll down and tap App Store
  • Make sure Automatic Updates is toggled on

On iPhone

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Scroll down and tap App Store
  • Make sure Automatic Updates is toggled on

You may also want to close apps when you aren’t using them just to be safe, Walkie-Talkie being one in particular.

Use Low Power Mode

The Apple Watch 8 is equipped with a Low Power Mode that saves battery life by limiting sensors and Wi-Fi connectivity on your watch. It’s useful in a pinch though you can leave it turned on if your watch’s battery is really struggling.

You can turn Low Power Mode on from the Battery section in your Apple Watch 8’s Settings app. Low Power Mode is also available for Workouts.

On Apple Watch

  • Open up the Settings app
  • Scroll down and tap on Workout
  • Toggle Low Power Mode on

On iPhone

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Scroll down and tap Workout
  • Toggle Low Power Mode on

If you frequently use your Apple Watch 8 during workouts, it might be a good idea to toggle it in for the duration.

Manage the Display

If you manage your Apple Watch 8’s display you’ll help the device conserve battery life and avoid unnecessary drain. Here’s how to properly do that.

First, if the display is constantly at max brightness, the battery will drain. So you’ll want to make sure the display is at an appropriate level of brightness for the environment you’re in. There are a couple of ways to adjust your Apple Watch 8’s screen brightness:

  • On your Apple Watch, open the Settings app
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Use the slider at the top to adjust the brightness of the display

If you’d prefer to adjust the brightness from your iPhone, you can do that too:

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Tap General
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Use the slider at the top to adjust the brightness of your Apple Watch 8’s display

If you don’t need your Apple Watch 8’s screen to turn on every time you move your wrist, try turning off the “Wake On Wrist Raise” function.

On Apple Watch:

  • Open the Settings app
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Toggle Wake on Wrist Raise off

On iPhone:

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Tap General
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Toggle Wake on Wrist Raise off

You may also want to shut the device’s Always On display feature off. Turning it off can increase battery life. Here’s how to do that:

  • Open the Settings app on your watch.
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Scroll down and tap Always On
  • Tap Always On to toggle it on or off

Turn Off Background App Refresh

Background App Refresh keeps your apps data fresh in the background. It can also chew through your device’s battery life if it isn’t managed properly.

Unless you really need it, we recommend toggling it off, or limiting it to certain apps. Here’s how you do that:

On Apple Watch

  • Open up the Settings app
  • Tap General
  • Tap Background App Refresh
  • Toggle Background App Refresh off

On iPhone

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Tap General
  • Tap Background App Refresh
  • Toggle Background App Refresh off

Optimize Battery Charging

As your Apple Watch 8 gets older, the battery will start to degrade. If you want to slow down this process, you’ll want to turn Optimized Battery Charging on. Here’s how to do it:

  • Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch
  • Scroll down and tap on Battery
  • Tap Battery Health
  • Toggle Optimized Battery Charging on

Turning this function on will help reduce battery aging by learning from your daily charging routines.

Unpair Your Apple Watch 8

If none of the above fixes work, you can try unpairing your Apple Watch 8 from your iPhone. This process is fairly involved and will take time to complete. It should only be used as a last resort.

If you want to go through with it, you’ll want to check out Apple’s detailed guide.

One of the most frustrating problems plaguing Apple Watch 4 owners is abnormal battery drain. These problems can be rather tricky to fix, but we’ll take you through potential solutions to try before contacting Apple for help.

We haven’t seen widespread complaints about Apple Watch 4 battery life in 2023, but some users are saying their watch’s battery is draining faster than normal, either out of the blue or after a software update.

Apple Watch battery life issues are pretty common, particularly on older models like the Apple Watch 4. Many people have been using the device since it first launched all the way back in 2018.

If you start noticing severe battery drain on your Apple Watch 4 you’ll obviously want to try and fix the issue right away. In this guide we’ll show you some fixes that could help your battery life problems right away.

These are fixes that have worked for us (I’ve owned the Apple Watch 4 since 2018) and they might help you solve your battery issues in just a few short minutes.

Restart Your Apple Watch 4

Before you take any other step, the first thing you should do is a quick restart. Power down your Apple Watch 4, wait a minute, and then power it back on again.

If your Apple Watch 4’s battery is still draining faster than you think it should, move onto the next steps.

Update Your Apple Watch 4

Apple will periodically release new watchOS software updates for the Apple Watch 4. Point updates (x.x.x) are typically focused on fixing bugs while milestone upgrades (x.x) usually provide a mix of features and fixes.

The company might not call out battery life fixes in an watchOS 9 update’s change log, but new firmware always has the potential to help alleviate battery drain issues.

Apple Watch 4 will make the move to watchOS 10 this fall which means owners will get access to another year of robust software updates.

Update Your Apps

Make sure your Apple Watch 4 is set to automatically download app updates. This will help ensure your device is running the latest version of an app which can help prevent battery drain. Here’s how to check if it’s turned on on your device:

On Apple Watch

  • Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch 4
  • Scroll down and tap App Store
  • Make sure Automatic Updates is toggled on

On iPhone

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Scroll down and tap App Store
  • Make sure Automatic Updates is toggled on

Manage the Display

Properly managing your Apple Watch 4’s display is key to conserving battery life and avoiding unnecessary drain. There are a few key things to keep in mind here.

First, if you constantly have your watch’s display at maximum brightness, it’ll drain the battery. Make sure you keep brightness at an appropriate level for your environment. There are two ways to adjust your Apple Watch 4’s screen brightness:

  • On your Apple Watch, open the Settings app
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Use the slider at the top to adjust the brightness of the display

If you’d prefer to adjust the brightness from your iPhone, you can do that too. Follow these instructions to do so:

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Tap General
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Use the slider at the top to adjust the brightness of your Apple Watch 4’s display

If you don’t need your Apple Watch 4’s screen to turn on every time you adjust your hands/wrist, turn off the “Wake On Wrist Raise” function. You can do this from your iPhone or the Apple Watch itself.

On Apple Watch:

  • Open the Settings app
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Toggle Wake on Wrist Raise off

On iPhone:

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Tap General
  • Tap Display & Brightness
  • Toggle Wake on Wrist Raise off

On the same screen you can also toggle Wake on Crown Rotation to off if you want to make sure the screen doesn’t turn on when you rotate the digital crown.

Turn Off Background App Refresh

Background Refresh is a feature that’s used to keep apps on your Apple Watch updated with the latest data. If left on, it can drain your device’s battery so we generally recommend turning it off unless you really, really need it. Here’s how to do it:

On Apple Watch

  • Open up the Settings app
  • Tap General
  • Tap Background App Refresh
  • Toggle Background App Refresh off

On iPhone

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Tap General
  • Tap Background App Refresh
  • Toggle Background App Refresh off

On the iPhone you can see a list of apps you’ve granted permission to use this function. If you want to keep Background App Refresh available for some apps but not others, you can go down the list of apps and pick and choose.

Use Low Power Mode

Your Apple Watch 4 comes with a Low Power Mode that’s useful for workouts. It saves battery life by limiting sensors and Wi-Fi on your watch. Here’s how to enable it:

On Apple Watch

  • Open up the Settings app
  • Scroll down and tap on Workout
  • Toggle Low Power Mode on

On iPhone

  • Open up the Watch app on your iPhone
  • Scroll down and tap Workout
  • Toggle Low Power Mode on

You can also turn Low Power Mode on from the Battery section in your Apple Watch 4’s Settings app.

Adjust Haptic Feedback

You may also want to adjust the haptic feedback on your Apple Watch 4. You can adjust the strength of the alerts on your Apple Watch or iPhone. You can also turn them off completely.

Optimize Battery Charging

As your Apple Watch 4 gets older, the battery will start to degrade and it won’t be able to hold the same kind of charge it could out of the box. This is natural, but there’s a way to help preserve the battery so it doesn’t degrade as quickly.

  • Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch
  • Scroll down and tap on Battery
  • Tap Battery Health
  • Toggle Optimized Battery Charging on

This will help reduce battery aging by learning from your daily charging routines.

Unpair Your Apple Watch 4

If nothing above works, you can try unpairing your Apple Watch 4 from your iPhone. This process will take time to complete and it should only be used as a last resort.

If you want to go through with this, you’ll want to check out Apple’s detailed guide. It will hold your hand through the entire process.

Short battery life is one of the most common Apple Watch complaints, but you can make your Apple Watch go further on a single charge with a few quick settings changes. This guide will show you how to fix bad Apple Watch battery life, all the way up to the latest Apple Watch SE, Series 8, and Ultra models.

With the exception of the Apple Watch Ultra, Apple Watch models are rated to last just 18 hours on a single charge. If your Apple Watch isn’t making it through a full day of use, then you should follow some steps to help stretch the battery out.

Note that some of the below steps will need to be done on your Apple Watch and others on your iPhone.

Restart Your Apple Watch

The first thing to do is restart your Apple Watch. It’s a small step, but the first one you should take before you worry about other fixes.

  1. Hold the Digital Crown and the side button for about 10 seconds.
  2. You can let go when you see a white Apple logo on a black background.

This can fix many Apple Watch battery life issues in under a minute. You may also want to restart your iPhone at this time.

Adjust Apple Watch Brightness and Display

Lowering the display brightness is another easy fix to improve Apple Watch battery life in just a few seconds. To make it so your Apple Watch’s display doesn’t use as much battery charge:

  1. Tap on Settings app on your Apple Watch
  2. Scroll down and tap Display and Brightness
  3. Tap on the left side of the brightness icon

Low Power Mode

Low Power Mode is a bundle of settings that makes it easy to stretch your Apple Watch’s battery out. It turns Always On Display off, slows notifications, and disables heart rate sensors.  While it does kill a lot of useful features, it will help your Apple Watch make it to the end of the day.

  1. Swipe Up from the bottom of the Apple Watch display
  2. Tap on the battery life % icon
  3. Tap on the Low Power Mode icon

Change Watchface for Better Battery Life

The OLED screen on the Apple Watch only uses power when it is showing something other than black. If you are very concerned about bad Apple Watch battery life, you should try using a watch face that has more black in it.

You’ll see the biggest difference if you currently use photos as watch faces or the time-lapse style watch faces. Pick a new watch face with more black and it could help you get better battery life.

A black watchface can help with battery life.

Limit Your Apple Watch Notifications

Receiving notifications often and checking them on your Apple Watch and uses up battery juice.  Cutting notifications on your watch down to only what matters the most can really help.

  1. Go to the Watch app
  2. Tap on Notifications
  3. Turn off those you don’t want or need

Apple Watch Apps & Battery Life

You should delete any Apple Watch apps you aren’t using if you want the best battery life.  You can delete them from the Apple Watch using the Watch app on the iPhone. You can delete the apps on your Apple Watch,  but keep them on your iPhone by:

  1. Go to the Watch app
  2. Scroll down to the app list
  3. Tap on the app name
  4. Toggle Show App on Apple Watch to off.

Re-Pair the Apple Watch

If your Apple Watch battery problems continue, you may need to re-pair the Apple Watch using the steps outlined in the video below. If you do this it may fix your problems even if you restore from a backup.

  1. In the Apple Watch app tap on your watch.
  2. Tap on the i button to the right of your watch.
  3. Tap Unpair Your Apple Watch.
  4. Confirm you want to Unpair your Apple Watch.

Now you can follow the directions below to pair your Apple Watch and you can decide to set up as new or to restore from backup.

This process can take some time, so make sure you do it when you are home and have time to spare. You will need your Apple Watch on the charger to pair it with your iPhone.

17 Things You Didn’t Know the Apple Watch Could Do

Set Your Apple Watch Ahead 5-10 Minutes

If you are always running behind and you are used to setting clocks ahead so that you leave early enough to get there you'll love the Apple Watch.

There is a setting on the Watch that lets you set the Apple Watch time ahead up to 59 minutes fast. Most people will set the watch a few minutes early or 15 minutes early if they are always late.

Alarms and timers should stick to the real-time, but when you look at the time on your Apple Watch you will see the time you want, instead of the real-time.

Here's how to set your Apple Watch ahead so you're always on time.
